Preparing For The Fall Season!

Fall Decor Inspiration

Have you been to Hobby Lobby lately?? Oh. My. Goodness… So much holiday goodness is already overflowing the shelves. It just makes me long for cooler weather, winter boots, and holiday scents. I love summer time, I really do. But I LOVE the holidays. Autumn technically starts on September 23rd, so I’m taking a little creative license here… but I’m not actually talking about it being Fall. No, today I’m just talking about preparing for the fall season. Are you excited? Get excited. Cuz it’s exciting.

Every year, as time marches forward, we hit little mile markers that turn our thoughts towards Fall. The first one, obviously – is Back To School. When I was a kid, it seemed totally natural that September was the beginning of the year, because school was really the only “year” on my mind. However, now that I’m not in school (and D isn’t in school yet) this year I found myself watching other parents bustle in anxious preparation to send their kiddos back to school… and thinking how funny / interesting it is that this is the time of year when tend to reset our priorities and work towards really organizing our lives (as opposed to the beginning of the year, when we’re all resolving to make changes). It must have something to do with summer coming to an end.

The other little mile marker for me, is Labor Day. I love Labor Day, and when I was growing up, it was usually the last hoorah before school started. Now that we’re in Texas, the school districts start a little earlier, so instead of a last hoorah, it seems to serve as a little break right after you start… kinda easing you in to the regular school year. This year for Labor Day, we’re going to a resort in Port Aransas. We are so excited! I can’t wait to get D down to the beach and play all day long, with no responsibilities. And even now, as I write about it, I can hear my thoughts saying, “Yeah, but then as soon as we get back, we’re getting down to business.” What is that? Am I alone in this? Or do y’all have this mindset too? Seriously, there’s something about the fall season that just resets the year.

Now that we’re right in the throws of these little “mile markers” I’m making a list of things I love to do, in order to get ready.

Preparing For The Fall Season

1.  If you’re the Mama of a school-age kiddo, then your first thoughts are probably to making sure you’ve got lunch boxes and backpacks, homework stations and after-school activities. D isn’t school-age yet, so the first thing on MY mind (after making sure we have a rockin’ Labor Day, of course), is Halloween. I’m TERRIBLE at Halloween. Just ask anyone who’s ever celebrated with me. I rarely dress up. I’m just not a big fan of the holiday. I really want to be. I’ll probably share a post with more on this as we get closer… but as a parent, I don’t want to be lame. I don’t want to pass my lackluster attitude towards such a fun holiday on to my child. So it takes thought and planning for me to get ready for it. Time and effort into making sure I get a costume for him and getting candy ready for trick-or-treaters… I love Holidays, genuinely I do. Just can’t seem to get excited about this one. So it takes effort to make sure I plan a good one for my little D. Especially if I’m going to get a costume for myself. Ugh… do I have to?

2.  Decorating. Oh man, do I love decking the house out with fall décor… and then transitioning into Christmas décor right after Thanksgiving. I. Love. It. There is something about having your house all full of holiday goodies, that just makes your heart happy. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. So of course, as we get closer to this time of year, my Pinterest boards are going crazy. I’m always looking for new ideas and planning out which craft or fun decoration I want to make next.

**psst, you should probably join me on Pinterest. I wanna see what you’re pinning!

3.  Baking. Is it just me? Or does the fall season make you want to whip out the apron and cookbooks?? Why does September and October suddenly give me the need to feel like Martha Stewart? I can’t help it. I can’t seem to get enough of making little turkeys out of Oreos and Candy Corn. Any recipe that looks like fall or the holidays… its going on my list to try out at this time of year. Oh, and don’t forget my annual cookie exchange! Have y’all ever been to one of these? I have a friend who throws them in spectacular style. She’s amazeballs. Of course, I moved away, so it’s harder to attend those nowadays. So, one year I just said… I guess I’ll need to throw my own! If you haven’t been to one, find one near you. Or shoot, just come down here and come to mine! You’re totally invited.

4.  Last but definitely not least, I start thinking about Christmas gifts. I LOVE Christmas shopping. Don’t you?? But you know what I hate? Waiting til the last minute. There’s nothing worse than feeling like you rushed to get something because you were ill-prepared. Trust me, I’ve been there. It’s not awesome. So I love to start thinking about it way ahead of time and get an idea of what kinds of gifts I want to get or make for my loved ones.

So how do you prepare for the fall? Do you feel like you’re hitting the “reset” button after the summer comes to a close? Do you start turning your thoughts towards organizing your life and getting back into routine? I know I do. I start making lists of recipes I’m going to bake, crafts I’m going to make, … hmm I was trying to think of something else that rhymed with bake and make, but I got nothin’.

Anyway, as you start preparing for the fall season, and refocus your priorities, I suggest you check out this amazing bundle of e-goodies to help you on your way. One of the blogs I follow, Just A Girl And Her Blog has an e-book, called “Simplify” full of organization printables that is being featured, and that’s how I found it. What a fun idea! This bundle features 40+ resources from easy, healthy recipes, meal plans, kid goodies, organization tips… the list goes on and on. 98.5% OFF y’all. If you paid full price for each of these e-books, you’d pay over $1,000! But right now, they’ve bundled it all together at an amazing price. Only til August 31st, so be sure to snag yours before it’s too late. I already got mine. I dove right in and have barely been up for air since. :)

I don’t know how I didn’t know about these bundles before… Have you ever bought one? I’d love to hear what you thought! I’m absolutely loving mine so far.

What are your plans for the end of the summer? I can’t wait to go to Port A and flood your Insta with pics. Okay, I’ll try not to do that, but it’ll be hard. How about preparing for the fall season?? Tell me in the comments how you and your family like to get ready for the fall season. I love talking about the holidays too, so if you have fun ideas, don’t be stingy. Be sure to share. :o)

You are making me SO excited for Fall! I’m definitely the same way; I love summer sunshine and festivals, but once the leaves start to change, I get so pumped for making millions of baked goods, and want to break out the Christmas tree. I don’t have any kids to prep for back to school time, but we’re getting ready to move into a new apartment at the beginning of next month, so it’ll definitely be a time for change and adjusting to a new home! Thanks so much for sharing this post! :)

I LOVE fall! It’s my favorite season! Since I live in Florida, I don’t get the changing colors, but I still love it!

Yeah, we don’t have a TON of changing color here… but I swear it has more to do with a mindset than anything else. Summer is ending, kids are going back to school, you know the holidays are coming… it’s just a fun time!

ME TOO, Cynthia! My hubby was with me the other day and he thought we’d never leave… He looked at me and said, “Babe. It’s August.” I was like, I knoooowwww, but I have to have time to do crafts!! Haha!

I’m less than 5 minutes away from Michael’s so I end up there more than I’d like to admit. So I’ve started collecting my fall decor picking up an item or two when I visit. I also get the baking bug in the fall.

This year, preparing for fall also means Labor Day for me, because I’m due with my first in November! Eeek! I’m officially in go mode now that the weather is cooling off. I’m definitely excited to get a few extra calories from pumpkin-flavored treats. :)

Aw, congrats Brittany!! I love your idea of getting extra calories from pumpkin flavored treats! Totally the way to go, and by then, you’ll definitely have earned it. :o) My son will be 4 in November! I just cannot believe how time flies.

Reading this post felt like I wrote it. haha. YES to all of this. I LOVE fall. Already planning all my recipes, living in Hobby Lobby pretending it IS fall and going to start my Christmas list plans soon. <3 Thanks for the post. Made my Monday <3 haha

    • Leah Sannar August 24, 2015, 10:37 pm

Thanks Mandi! I appreciate the comment! I need to start narrowing down which crafts I’m going to do. Because there’s clearly not enough time for me to do them all. :)

  • Erin August 24, 2015, 6:46 pm

You have me excited for fall!! :) I think fall makes me want to bake and I just love scents of fall – pumpkin, spice, cinnamon! I’m in the same boat when it comes to Halloween – I know for my littles I want to be excited, it’s fun for them but it’s just not a holiday I really look forward to.

Oh man, Erin! I’m so glad I’m not alone with the Halloween thing! When I was a kid it was freezing around that time of year and I wasn’t that into candy. I’ve always been more of a salty kinda girl. So Halloween was just a cold miserable holiday with candy, and no french fries! :)

  • Danielle August 24, 2015, 10:07 pm

This is great, I was never a seasonal person and couldn’t have cared less about decorating my house…then I had kids and for some reason I wanted to celebrate and decorate everything lol. I can’t wait for fall! I’m on a tight budget, but dollar tree has some really nice fall decorations, can’t go wrong with one dollar lol.

Oh, I saw the cutest little holiday plates at Dollar Tree the other day! For sure, you do not have to spend a ton of money. I’m on a super tight budget right now as well because we’ve been paying for two houses for the past two months (couldn’t break our lease). So I totally get it. We’re trying to recover from that right now. I’m gonna have to kick it into gear and go sell some mascaras so I can have a little pocket money for Fall crafts! (I sell Younique Mascara). :) I’d love to see your decor pics once you get it put together!
