Making Foil Boats With Your Preschooler

There’s nothing I love more than summer time with my family. Being outside, enjoying the weather… it’s just a feel-good time of year. It seems like we’ve been moving for like, I don’t know… EVER. So it felt pretty nice this past weekend to just kick back and relax. Our little Dom loves to play in the big inflatable pool, so we set it up and let him have a ball. Of course, Hubbalicious isn’t one to be left out, so we bought one big enough for adults to sit in and  enjoy as well. I love pulling out my camera and catching special moments like this between father and son.

Dom even showed off the skills he’s learning in swim class. He made the best faces while he was blowing bubbles.

Earlier this week, Dom & Dad made plans to make foil boats for the pool. At first I thought it would be a big production or project and I was ready to get all into it. But when Hubby pulled out the foil and started folding, I chuckled and thought, “Well that’s probably for the best.” At this age, I think Dom gets a lot more out of just putting them in the water, than he does out of actually building them.

These perfectly imperfect afternoons are among my very favorite. We do nothing at all, and they are my best memories. These are the moments I’ll cherish as my little man grows up and moves on. You don’t have to have spectacular boats to enjoy a perfect afternoon. A little tin foil and a lot of love. That’s it.

Happy Summer friends. What are you doing to pass the time?

You are da bomb diggity! And I love the way you let the foil boats be foil boats and not some big craft project.
When I grow up I want to be the kind of mommy you are to Trace-man. What? He’s 17, well…maybe I can talk him into making foil dinners?? :)
    I adore you!

Hahaha! Hey foil dinners are nothing to sneeze at! My hubby can make you literally want to cry tears of joy over a foil dinner… or anything he makes, really. I was initially a little disappointed because I had these ideas of putting a cute craft on the blog to do with your kid. But it didn’t take long for me to snap out of it and realize that quality time is the whole purpose for those crafts (not blog posts) and if you can get it done by folding up a couple corners on a piece of foil – more power to ya!! There will be plenty of time for elaborate craft projects. Not so much time to swim with your baby. :o)

Thanks Ruthie! My son was a big fan of the bubbles photo too. He laughed for quite a while over that one. Love summer time fun. :)
