Christmas is in the air, friends!! I just can’t believe how fast it’s coming. My family is already drawing names, looking forward to our traditions, and preparing for the holiday season. It’s my very favorite time of year. And this year, I wanted to decorate a part of the house that usually gets ignored. I’ve never really had a front porch that was ideal for decorating… but now, we live in this cute little place that has a great spot! It’s just a little porch, but it’s very visible to passers by.
Over the years, I’ve gathered a pretty hefty collection of Christmas decorations. Just ask Hubbalicious how many of those plastic totes we have sitting in our storage shed. He’ll tell you on any given day that I have way too much. However, I rarely hear any complaints when our halls are decked with boughs of holly and visions of sugarplums dance on our mantles. So, I just reminded him of that when I decided I needed to add to my collection in order to put together my first Christmas porch.
A couple weeks ago, I was at At Home, helping my mom design her new house (pics of that venture to follow soon!). Have you been there yet? I knew it was a big store because I had driven by… but going inside was a whole different ball game. I have literally never seen a home store that size. There is nothing there you can’t find. We were looking for accent chairs and the selection was vast to say the least. It was hard to focus on accent chairs though, since we had to walk through the very large sea of At Home Christmas Decor. I made a mental note, and when I was ready to shop… there was only one place I wanted to go. :o)
They have a huge section where you can shop for Christmas trees, called Tree for Me and I loved how they had the decorations organized into different themes! You know me though… I had to take a little from each one so I could mix it up. I’m not a matchy-matchy person.
I found this cute little crate, and filled it with cinnamon scented pine cones. I also used a blanket that I already had to cover a hay bale that I used for Fall Decor. I’ve always loved flannel prints for Christmas.. it feels so rustic to me, I don’t know why.
I totally fell in love with these golden reindeer. They look really heavy, so it totally surprised me when I picked them up and they were super light! I’ve always wanted reindeer to sit on my porch, haven’t you? Don’t you think they look cute there? I do. :o)
My little D picked out that awesome Christmas tree in white. He loved the snow at the top. We never see snow in Texas, so that made him super happy. And all of it goes perfectly with my year round “Welcome” sign.
I even snagged myself some fake snow and gave our storm door a little wintery makeover. I’m so happy with how it turned out! In Texas, it’s completely unrealistic that our door would have snow drifts like that… but I don’t even care. I mean, if I have to Christmas shop in flip-flop weather, then I’m darn sure going to put some fake snow on my doors and windows. We’re also considering some lights strung through the posts on either side of the porch. We’ll have to see how it goes.
Next on the list is shopping for Christmas Trees! At Home has a huge selection and I was very tempted to grab one! However, I just couldn’t get myself to buy one before Thanksgiving. I think that might be crossing some imaginary line in my head… it would just allow my holiday obsession to pass over into new, scary territory. And also, Hubbalicious and I are both from the Pacific Northwest and are debating a real tree this year. Despite how much easier the fake trees are, we are thinking that maybe our little D should experience Christmas the way we did when we were kids. You know, sliding under the tree to give it water, sweeping pine needles up for weeks, and loading the tree into and out of the house. He would just love it.
So what do you think? Are you loving my new Christmas porch? Have you been to At Home yet? If not, you should. And preferably in time to take advantage of the awesome Christmas selection and low prices. Which theme would you choose? Or would you be a rebel like me and take a little bit of everything?
Decorate your front porches and tag me in your photos! Can’t wait to see them! Hope you are having fun getting ready for the holidays!
