Hey friends! I can’t believe it’s the LAST day of August. Y’all, do you realize that summer will be officially over in 23 days? I can’t believe how fast time flies. Yesterday, D was a tiny little squishy baby, and tomorrow he’ll be driving a car. Okay, not quite… but you get my drift. Seriously. Slow down, Father Time. I can’t keep up.

Do y’all like setting goals? I’ve never been very good at it. Well…let me re-phrase that. I’m great at setting goals. I’m just not awesome at reaching them. Or even remembering that I set them. Does that sound like you? No? Am I alone in this? Well, anyway.. guess what?

I reached my goal for August.

WOOO HOOOO!!!!!! Excited for me? Thanks! You may have noticed that I’ve been a lot more focused on this little blog o’ mine lately. (I really do love it over here in my little corner of the web. That’s in large part, because of all y’all, so thanks!) And although I set several little goals as well, there was one that was very important to me. I wanted to consistently post three times a week, through the entire month of August. And I did it! It may seem like a small thing, but guys… it took a Herculean effort on my part to make it happen. As you know, I work full time and have a three year old… So getting up and remembering to brush my teeth in the morning is hard enough (actually I may have forgotten to do that today. Haha, I kid, I kid…) but to actually write, edit, photograph and publish three posts a week for an entire month seemed impossible to me when I set the goal at the end of July. So much so, that I didn’t even say it out loud because I was afraid to be held accountable. Number one rule in goal setting: Tell someone out loud so they can hold you accountable… How’s that for the #worldsworstgoalsetter. You think that’s a real hash tag some where?

The annoying great thing about setting goals, working your butt off to reach them and actually accomplishing it, is that it’s kind of a rush. And you know what happens when you get a rush? You want to do it again (hello, addictive personality).Getting that little taste of success has totally spurred me on to reach even higher. Not to post more often, (let’s not be ridiculous, folks) but to set my sights on some other areas where I feel I can/need to improve and work towards getting that rush again. And you know what? This time, I’m going to say it out loud.

Setting Goals For September

Personal Goals: 

1. Stop hitting the snooze button. Seriously, there are not people in this world who hate mornings more than me. I promise. It’s really bad. I will set my alarm for a reasonable time, and GET UP when I hear it. *I can hear you laughing Hubbalicious*

2. Lay off the Dr. Pepper. *Seriously! Stop laughing, Tim!* No really… I drink A LOT of Dr. Pepper. You might say that I have it running through my veins. So here’s my goal: 1 Dr. Pepper per day. I do have one caveat though. We will be celebrating Labor Day at the beach in Port Aransas this weekend, and I will take a 3 day break from this goal during that time. Because, I don’t even want to go, if I can’t enjoy my DP. This might sound super ridiculous to you… but honestly – If I manage this, someone should give me a prize. (and for those of you considering what prize you should get me: I like Dr. Pepper.)

Bloggy Goals: 

1.Guest Post on a blog that I admire. (posts that I already have set up, don’t count.)

2. Hit 750 Likes on Facebook! Wanna help me out? Awesome, you can LIKE me here: Life, Lemons & Lemonade

3. Host a Giveaway. Stay tuned, because it’s going to be fun!

So there you have it. I’ve said it out loud, and you guys can hold me accountable. I know it’s just a few small things, but it’s only a month… give me a break! Seriously though… I know I joke a lot, but it really meant so much to me to be able to reach my goal this month. It gave me the motivation to do it again, and keep working towards the things I want in the long run. I hope you’ll take the time to set your own goals. Let’s all hold each other accountable and work towards bettering ourselves and our lives! I’m taking it even one step further and creating a Habit Tracker for September. That way, everyday, I can check off all the good habits I want to get better at implementing into my life. I do so love to put a check mark in the box.

    Great idea to set monthly goals and write them down! Sometimes it’s overwhelming with personal life, blogging, etc–I am definitely going to try this for September!

      Thanks Amy! It is so hard… really, and I am the worst about it. I’m creating a habit tracker for September. It’ll be the first time I’ve ever tried one! Once I get it created, I’ll share it here, so if you guys want to try, you can do that. :)

      Every blogger I’ve ever talked to says, “get up and write in the morning!” I’m like… are you kidding me?? I can barely eat breakfast. I’m so useless.. but I know that if I could master it, I would have so much more time to focus on the blog!

    I just set a goal to post 3x a week in September. The summer was so chaotic that it was hard to stick to a schedule, but now that school is back in session I’m ready to be organized and goal-oriented. Congrats on reaching your August goal!!

    First, I have to ask…is there anyone that enjoys getting out of bed in the morning? Well, anyone normal? I don’t mean those annoyingly perky people that need smacked (insert my hubs)! haha j/k I love your goals! I’m cheering for you on the Dr Pepper addiction! I love Coke (cherry coke to be exact) and when I decided to start changing my eating habits, that was one of the first things that had to go :( I still miss it and have one on rare occasions, but sodas are such junk. So, good for you for going down to one a day!!! You can do it!!! I would sometimes drink carbonated water (gross to the extreme, I know) because it gave me that “burn” that soda does and it helped a bit when I was craving! Thanks for the post! It was a fun read!

      Thanks Sandra! I am downing Dr. Pepper as we speak in preparation for my withdrawals in the days to come. I will probably be very grouchy. Oh, and about the mornings… yeah my husband bounces out of bed every morning like it’s Christmas! I usually want to punch him, but I know that’s just the jealousy talking. :)

    Good luck with that snooze button!! That is tricky! My goals for this month are to stop eating after 8:30 (I’m a late night snacker) and to have all screens off by 9:30 so I can get more sleep. Cheers to a successful September!

      Oh my goodness, Emily. I’ll be so impressed if you get your screens off by 9:30! I would never get anything done if I did that… the latest I can commit to is midnight. Ah, that’s so terrible!!

      Dia, I totally get that! That’s where I was in July, which is why I sat down and re-focused myself for August. It felt so good! You’ll do better, everybody has off months.

    Omg if you figure out how to do #1 please fill me in asap. Lol… Seriously though I’m horrible !!! For some reason 6:15am and 6:40 is a huge difference for me :( I hate mornings!!!! I do okay once I get up but it’s insanity to that point. Maybe that will be my September goal. :)

      Oh girl, my alarm is set for 7! That’s how bad I am!! It really is terrible, I don’t even have to get up that early! I read about all these bloggers who get up at 5 to take advantage of the morning hours and it just makes me want to laugh. Not. A. Chance. :)

      Day 11, wow!! Congrats on getting started!! I highly recommend you write them down. I’m keeping my habit tracker right next to my bed on my nightstand so that I can check in daily and keep myself on track!

    Congratulations on posting 3x a week! I totally get what a BIG deal that is! Goodness, just reaching my 2x a week can be challenging to say the least! Really cool! I’m just about to get started on my “goal” post for October – my goal posts always force me to get myself a little more focused. Often I notice when I write about “how I did on the previous month” I’m embarrassed to admit how many goals I fall short on BUT the good thing is I can find the light that I’m making progress!
